Grunda
Version 1.0
The Story: Grunda is a robot gone mad. You must guide your
character through the installation, and turn off the power
switch.
Grunda was a housebound bodyguard of the President.
However, she was hit by a bolt of lightening, and has gone
crazy. To your advantage, her unerring tracking has been
broken, and so she hesitates at times, rather than coming
directly at you. But, she has the power to regenerate, and
you will find that with each room, she becomes more and more
able to track unerringly.
Grunda has the power of teleportation, and will indeed
teleport into each of the ten rooms you must traverse.
Grunda is a very powerful robot, able to deliver a jolt of
electricity capable of killing a man. She does this by
simply touching her victim.
The Presidential Palace has invisible security walls
that partition off the rooms. You will not be able to go
through the wall to the next room unless you find and pick up
the security pass that is left in each room. A new security
pass is required to advance from each room to the next. The
passes were left by fleeing security personnel, who, in their
terror, did not realize they dropped them.
You must traverse all 10 rooms (0 through 9), then
go to the power switch in the tenth room, and turn Grunda
off.
Good luck in your mission!
Author's Note: Grunda was the first game I wrote. It was
originally written on an Atari 400, saved to tape drive. I
was twelve when I wrote that version. I am now 22, but am
just now learning the C programming language. I thought this
would be an appropriate first serious program. I've learned
a lot while puzzling out how to re-make this program on my
IBM clone.
No, it's not a high-tech eye-popping graphics/ear
blasting sound game. But, as anyone who ever fell in love
with the early Atari VCS <later Atari 2600> games knows, it
doesn't take much in the way of graphics and sound to make a
great game. Does that mean I think this is a great game?
No, it just means that I know that just because it uses text
graphics it is not automatically a bad game.
I hope you enjoy this freeware game. Feel free to hand
out copies to friends and enemies alike. Upload it to BBS's.
Delete it from your system. Do what you like with it.
I have an 80386sx-16, and do not have any other
computers available to test it on. I would appreciate any
feedback on how it goes on faster and slower machines. If
you know how to program in C, use the included source code
and modify it to work better on your computer.
I have made this game at what I consider a chellenging
level of play. If it is too challenging, let me know, and I
will be happy to increase Grunda's error level, or decrease
the speed of the game. But, give the game a chance before
you decide it's too hard. It takes a bit of practice to get
used to the high speed chases.
I have included the C source code for anyone who wishes
to modify it. Please feel free. And if you do, please send
me a copy of your upgraded version. I am a firm believer in
the hacker ethic, and the free flow of information. Maybe
someone can benefit from what I have written, and maybe I can
benefit from what someone else will write.
Gary Blaine's joystick header file was used in this
program. Thank you Gary! For those of you programmers out
there, it is also included in the .zip file you have
downloaded.
This was programmed using Borland's Turbo C++, in the
Turbo C mode. Extra thanks to Borland, and their no-nonsense
liscensing agreement.
LEGAL STUFF: The author makes no warranties, neither express
nor implied, as to the suitability of this software for any
use. I don't guarantee that it won't cause headaches, back-
aches, neck pain, and/or "Gamer's wrist". I do not guarantee
that it will not ruin your computer. I don't guarantee
anything about it.
Does that cover it? I think so.
Grunda is a free program. No charges may be made for it,
other than download time.
